Custom Seat Covers For the Ninja

custom seat coversAre you looking for a quick and easy solution to spruce up your seat without having to spend the money on the likes of a Corbin? Custom Seat Creations has released a plethora of options for seat covers for the 2008+ Ninja 250R. They have some nice designs solutions for all the current colors ( See the Scorpion Series ) and even have the options for some real exotic creations as well (Snake, Crocodile, Rhino, Ostrich, Dinosaur… Holy Crap? Dinosaur? )

Pretty much all installation is, is pulling out the staples around the stock seats. Spraying on some contact cement. And Re-Stapling the new seat pattern to the seat. Whats really nice, is that they also have matching overlays for the Seat Cowl ‘bumper’ — so no matter what your seating configuration is, they got you covered… Literally…

Kawasaki OEM Seat Cowl — Follow Up

Ninja 250 Seat Cowl UpdateThe orginal post I did about the OEM Seat Cowl replacement from Kawasaki has some less than stellar things to say about it. One of my main complains (and that of many people) is that it just didn’t want to Stay on, or properly click into the lock.

Well, after having it on the bike for almost a month now, I think it is only fair to do a follow-up to say that it has now “Broken in”. Taking the seat cowl off and on is a snap and the fitment is pretty damn near close to perfect — And it takes the same amount of pressure to get the replacement cowl on as it does the stocker.

So, before you go and shave the stoppers down, just give it some time to compress them down into the proper fitment.

OEM Seat Cowl replacement.

Ninja 205r Seat Cowl InstalledThe OEM seat cowl replacement leaves a little to be desired. Although it does look great, the actually build quality of it leaves a little to be desired.

The Good:

  • Looks Really Sharp
  • Adds a tad more storage
  • Perfect Color Match

The Bad

  • Poor Fit and Finish
  • Not Even remotely weather proof
  • Cheap Back stopper. Not Nice Seat Fabric
  • Tends to not want to stay on (See Comments)

Install Tips

  • Try hitting the mounting bolts with some loc-tight. They like to come loose after a while.
  • If fit is “too tight” try sanding the front stoppers down a bit. (See Comments)
  • Make sure the key is turned when trying to seat the front - or else the latch won’t be open.
