Best Mods/Parts for the Ninja 250R

Scratch HeadWhat mods or Parts are the best ones for the Ninja 250R? Which should I do First?

… Seems to be the first question to pop into mind for every new boy and girl as they wait for Kawasanta to bring them their shiny new 2009 Ninja 250R? (Or wait for a 2008 to show up on a dealers lot)

Granted this topic is completely objective.. The best mods are the ones you’re happy with — But to help steer you in the right direction, I’ll throw my $.02 into the ring, and feel free to do so yourself in the comments.

#1: Good Riding Gear - There are lots of new riders on this bike, so I know many of you will be starting from scratch… Spend your money on gear! Good gear will last you a long time, and save your butt when you need it the most! DO NOT SKIMP ON GEAR TO SAVE MONEY FOR PARTS!

#2: Needle Shim / Jet Kit - These bikes tend to be a bit anemic. Adding a jet kit or shimming your needles will give you the most bang for your buck of any ‘performance’ mod. (Unless you’re one of those lucky Bastards in AU, UK, Indo, Japan, etc. that has fuel injection…)

#3: Stainless Braided Brake Lines - The stock lines are just Squishy and don’t give much feedback… This is a decent 100$ mod that will get you lots of bang for your buck… Just make sure if you don’t know what you’re doing you get some help… Brakes are well.. You know.. Kinda important.

#4: Fender Eliminator - Sorry to everyone that lives in an area where these are illegal.. But the rear fender is horrible.. Chop that crap off, or find an aftermarket part.

#5: Rear Seat Cowl - This is both for aesthetics and safety. Two up on the 250R is a bit shady to me. I think it brings a lot of people out of their comfort zone for riding, and also the additional weight brings the 250R close to the limits of safe riding. The Seat cowl looks great, and makes 2 up riding a non issue.

Well, Someone needs to say it…

motorcycle for saleFirst, I need to preface this post by saying — I try my hardest to deliver any news, advice, and information that has to do with the Ninja 250R — Good or Bad — And I try to do it as open minded and objectively as I can, and in return I let y’all respond with the same respect as I don’t moderate comments in any way.

That being said, there is one truth that might upset some people for me saying it — but I haven’t heard it yet — and I think people want to hear it because of the emails I have been getting lately so I’m just going to do it: (Y’all really do email me about some of the craziest stuff… Don’t get me wrong, I love it.. But the emails need to include more pictures of chicks, puppies, chicks with puppies, and fire! )

Here is the jist of about 4 emails I received this weekend with the name “John” used instead:

Dear Mr 2Fiddy,

[… blah blah … ] I went into my dealer this weekend looking at a new bike, should I trade in my 250, or wait? Is $x,xxx for a Ubermoto 10000 a good price? is $x,xxxx a Good price for a trade in? [ … Yadda, Yadda… ]

Thanks,
John

And now, here is my open response to the community:

Dear John,
If you’re thinking about trading in your lil’ Ninja for another bike, Now is the time to do it.

xoxo,
Mistah 2Fiddy

There, I said it… You pissed yet? Okay — Fine.. Lemme explain myself.

Ninja 250R Top Speed / WOT Video

Here is a video of a completely stock Ninja 250R running through the gears.. It’s pretty good quality, and gives a great example of the scoot that the lil 250 Has. This rider being about 140lbs tops out at about 110mph.

Now, if someone can make a video of a nicely modded 250R doing the same thing, we will send you some of the finest meats and cheeses…

Kawasaki OEM Seat Cowl — Follow Up

Ninja 250 Seat Cowl UpdateThe orginal post I did about the OEM Seat Cowl replacement from Kawasaki has some less than stellar things to say about it. One of my main complains (and that of many people) is that it just didn’t want to Stay on, or properly click into the lock.

Well, after having it on the bike for almost a month now, I think it is only fair to do a follow-up to say that it has now “Broken in”. Taking the seat cowl off and on is a snap and the fitment is pretty damn near close to perfect — And it takes the same amount of pressure to get the replacement cowl on as it does the stocker.

So, before you go and shave the stoppers down, just give it some time to compress them down into the proper fitment.

Great Sound clip for Yoshimura Full Exhaust

This is a great sound clip / video for the Yoshimura Full carbon Exhaust for the 2008 Ninja 250R. Right about 1:10 is where the nice WOT drive by is, and it is clearly leaps and bounds above the stocker’s sound (or lack of).. And, I’m pretty impressed, it’s not as obnoxious as some of the other exhausts on the market.

So far (and yes, I own one, so I’m a lil biased) — In my opinion, this is the best look / sound / performance mixture out there. But keep in mind it’s $200-$300 more than most of the competition…

White Ninja 250R - Like a Samurai in a tux…

This is one hot bike. dnaLor from KawiForums posted the results from his recent bike bleaching — and from the clean looks of it, I won’t be surprised if Kawasaki adds White to their Color arsenal for 2009..

Good Job man! Awesome looking bike (And scooby!)

Yoshimura Exhaust for 08 Ninja 250R

Yoshimura carbon fiber exhaust for NinjaOhhhhhh la la.. I’m in love with the carbon Yoshimura exhaust… That thing it tight.. One of the great things about the Ninja 250R motorcycle is that most of the riders have nothing to prove, so you can buy parts that make you happy, not just the parts that give you performance or functionality…

In this case, you get a little of both. Yoshimura (aka Yoshi, aka Yosh) has brought SIX new exhausts to the market. 3 Full systems, and 3 Slipons.

yoshimura exhaust stainlessYoshimura TRC Full Exhaust: (All prices USD)
$719.00 TRC Stainless/Carbon Full System
$699.00 TRC Stainless/Titanium Full System
$599.00 TRC Stainless/Stainless Full System

Yoshimura TRC Slip-On Exhaust: (All prices USD)
$549.00 TRC Stainless/Carbon Slip-On
$499.00 TRC Stainless/Titanium Slip-On
$429.00 TRC Stainless/Stainless Slip-On
yoshimura exhaust titanium

The dyno charts from this exhaust show an increase of 3hp over peak but with up to an impressive 7hp more from 10,000RPM - 13,000RPM. (No torque graph was available at this time) The only questionable performance is a small dip in power from 4,000-5,500 RPM. But, this is most likely from the fact that they are running a DynaJet Kit on the test bike (Recommended for both Full and Slip on systems!) and it’s fattening up the already lean bottom end of the stock jets.
