2009 Ninja 250R Officially Official
Kawasaki updated the webpage for the 2009 Ninja 250R… And not to to many people’s surprise, not much has changed.
What has changed:
Price is listed as $3,499 - $4099 (Pretty sure this is a misprint and should be $3,999-$4,099)
Colors are now: Metallic Diablo Black, Sunbeam Red, Candy Thunder Blue, Special Edition Lime Green / Metallic Diablo Black
There is a special edition version ( Lime Green / Metallic Diablo Black) Which also looks to get wheel stripes.
Updated the pictures, removing the pictures of the woman riding the bike. (Perhaps marketing shift?)
More details: Kawasaki.com
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

According to the specs page, the ‘09 weighs in at 374lbs…I think the ‘08 was around 330lbs. Anybody know or have an idea of what the added weight is? Maybe the ‘08 spec was dry and the ‘09 spec is wet (all fluids filled)? Looks to still be carbed in the US.

I believe 08 listed it as “dry” weight where as this is listed as “curb” weight. If you add things up it looks about right considering gas will be about 32 lbs that leaves 12 lbs for oil and other fluids.

I think the green look stupid. perhaps without the white it would be a good idea, but still. I like my 08 becasuse is doesn’t look like other bikes with all the crazy graphics. IMO, solid is better, details are more apparent.

Unless my eyes aren’t working, it looks like the blue is darker (and the name is different; Candy Plasma vs. Candy Thunder). I’m glad I got my ‘08. The darker blue just doesn’t look as good to me.

At first when i picked my bike up, i agreed but didn’t care because it was next-gen 250r. Buuuut, the more i ride it, the more i like it. the Kawi pics do no justice to this paint (candy thunder). It is by far my favorite, and my mustang GT is the exact same color as the candy plasma blue. Takes a nice color to win me over from matching vehicles, but it did. And to all you loons out there spending 5500, find somewhere else! this is a 250cc bike! don’t fall into the hype of supply and demand. Got mine OTD for 4350

I don’t think the price is a misprint. My local dealer is selling the 09 at 3499. Iv’e been checking other dealer sites who have the 09’s up and the ones who have the MSRP listed have it 3499 for the 2009.
Is the higher price maybe for the special edition lime/diablo black bike with the colored rims (or is that just a colored stripe on the tire?)
Seems odd either way. I just made my deposit and my math indicates they are selling me the bike at the 3499 point (plus tax and fee’s) OTD for 4300.
If the OTD was any higher I would have been concidering some other bikes instead of this one. Possible Kawasaki knows this and thats why the margin is listed that way.

They aren’t coloured rims, just pinstripe decals you can get on ebay for $10. Frankly this announcement makes me feel pretty good about my ‘08

I am going to put a deposit in for the 09 Ninja’s. I’ve been looking really hard for a green 08′ but haven’t found one at a price that is reasonable for a used bike. The dealer said $4549.00 plus freight, pdi and taxes. I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and that is probably why it’s a good amount more expensive. My question is, what is YOUR opinion on me getting this bike for the price and what do you think of the black colour?

Charlie Reply:

Is the new canadian MSRP 4549 or is it just what the dealer want? I already put down a deposit for 09 ninja and Im from Toronto too but at the moment the dealer said he doesnt yet know the details on 09’s. I originally want a pure lime green one like the 08’s but clearly thats gone so im very dissapointed. I think the Kawasaki marketing people make a dumb move for the 09 ninjas. Clearly there is a big demand for those things so I dont see why they had to change the colors. Even automakers dont change brand new models after the first year let alone a low volume market like motorcycles. As for the colors now i think prob either red or blue. The special edition just doesnt look right to me and I’m certainly not paying extra 100’s for it.

O’really, I wish I had the black metallic color more then my straight black 08. Black looks cool from a distance and that’s about it. What a pain in the ass to keep clean. You can bump the plastic with your knee or touch it with your finger incorrectly and it will leave marks that have to be buffed out to get rid of them. I have to wash mine a couple of times per a week just to keep the dust off of it. You touch it with dust on it or try wiping it down with a cloth and you might as well take sandpaper to it. I wish I could have gotten the green one because of this but I’m also glad that I’ve got one so I’ll shut up now.

honestly, i say if there isn’t a big difference between a new bike and the one that you are looking at buying, i say buy a new one. especially one that has damage. it’s always nicer to have things brand new. and a damaged one? you have to keep in mind that your ass is riding on that. one thing to have a used car, but on these type of things, every component is vital. something malfunctions, and you can have a REALLY bad day. so it’s better to buy it new, especially with the damage, and just the fact it’s pretty nice to have a brand new bike, and it’s something you can feel confident about riding without worrying about anything malfunctoning

Great point!!! I agree. Sometimes being to excited about somethings can throw your sensibilty off. Patience and time is the only real remedy. Making a major purchase like this is very vital to your self confidence of “new” ownership rather than pre-owned. The website has been fixed and $3999 is the starting price. I am very sure Kawi has people that make mistakes too. My bike is suppose to be available possibly by next Friday, they hope. My OTD price for a blue 09′ is $5050.00. Goodtimes Motorsport Sacramento, Ca. Good Luck Everyone!!!

HI guys. just so you can compare in prices, I gave my deposit and filled out a contract with the dealer in July for an 2009. On the contract he charged me 4250.CAD plus of course the extras.( I live in Montreal,Qc.) Since I see people are being charged more since the web site put up their prices on the 250. Can the dealership ask for more money? I have the contract in hand and I would guess that they are stuck with the price they gave me.I’m I right guys?
Good Luck to all of you who are trying to get the 2009s.

No it’s not a contact it’s a bill of sale and I’m sure there is a clause that will allow them to change the terms and conditions depending on this that and another.
There is a reason why they call them slealerships. $4250 OTD sounds about right depending on the “freebies” they gave you. I bought mine off Craigslist so I only had to pay taxes etc to the guy. Paid $3800 for it with 21 miles on it. Though Kawasaki did just replace my ignition switch for a whopping $0.00. They did me good on that one I’m sure I’ll ride my 250 into the ground and then give them more money when I upgrade.
Hope you get an 09!

I was just afraid to buy a used 250r for just $1000 less. I was worried about getting a bike not broken in properly. Since the 250r is going to be my 1st motorcycle, I was thinking of going new. I rode many of my friends bikes and had some scooters in my life. I just didn’t want to buy someones headaches.
Thanks for the reply Outinthedark. I’m going to try to get my ninja at the sales price he quoted me on my bill. Witch is sign for and marked with my 200$ deposit.

*Which…unless your 250 is powered by brooms!
Honestly most bikes as soon as they are fully assembled are handed off to the biggest idiot to test ride. They usually run about 2 miles or so to the max [or at least from the 3 dealers around me I have seen them all do this]. Breaking in the bike will not be a problem because they did you the favor of sealing those rings nice and tight while that idiot test drove 2 miles in about 20 seconds.
I say if the dealer tries to up the price on you have a backup plan. Search around on Craigslist in your area for a just in case. I don’t know about you or how you can present yourself but I can talk my way in/out/around anything. Come prepared and knowledgeable about your purchase. If they feel they want more money for the bike you should start asking for a reason why. Even if they don’t raise the price try to milk more freebies out of them. Ask for a helmet/jacket etc.
I always try to have another option and play both sides off each other. Also don’t forget about taxes…geeze they kill ya and I certainly forgot about it come registration time.

Confirmed.
That is a misprint. The price is 3999 for the standard colors and 4099 for the limited edition lime/diablo black.
Fair OTD prices should be about 4300 and 4400 registered and inspected respectively.
I called, confirmed, and changed my order to the lime model for the extra hundo. Dealer said Kawasaki should ship them in March/April of next year.
Another point of interest; He mentioned that it was VERRY good that I made a deposit and got locked in this early. He said last (this) year he was shorted 14 bikes.
Even though Kawasaki is promising lots of inventory for 09, if you want one, it would probably be a good idea to go put a deposit down somewhere asap.

Well it’s nice to hear anecdotes that people can get these from dealers OTD for MSRP.
I don’t believe it, unless you live in a tax free state. This bike is a $4300 OTD purchase new, if you are very lucky. The demand continues to be off the chart. I get offers every few weeks here. Though no one is ready to pay $5000, even though mine is about 100 times better than stock in power and tune.
Oh well, I think I’m going to keep it and screw the depreciation. The cbr600rr can wait.
I hate to be sexist, but Kawi made a smart move. They cannot afford to misrepresent this as a “girls” bike. It’s not a girls bike it is a small bike that many girls and women can fit more comfortably. And it is easier to ride for novices, though it requires full moto skills.
Just watch all the girls on YouTube dropping them. It’s not as light as some think, and has some serious bite, especially when tuned. So Kawi saw who was buying them (men and women) and changed the advertising. That said, I am so happy when I see a feminine name in the forum. I wish I had a girlfriend who rode..that would be great. Instead mine just bitches.
Quite frankly, I think it is the best toy ever.

I think the new 250r will go down as the biggest regret for a million women around the world. Their husbands, sons, fathers and boyfriends like the bikes looks as much as they do, but the displacement gets in the way of them owning one. So they convince the lady to partake and soon she is having to commit to learning something very serious that she may not be used to.
Not to mention the whole, disastrous, “i’ll teach you honey” approach to riding with ones wife.
The only thing greater than a mans stupidity is his willful ignorance of the truth.
The 250r is a real bike, for people committed to real riding.
Buy her a moped or scooter next time.

Can’t wait to see the new lime green limited edition 250… I am currently living in Socal and wondering when they are going to start hitting up the stealerships… By the way, I’m 18 and I was able to bid down on a 08 250, when one of the representatives quoted me 5000USD, I nearly laughed and told him i’d go somewhere else, so he piped down and told me he would sell it for 4000usd If I sat down with him. That was a while ago….. now I am interested in buying the 2009 since my father wanted me to wait for my bday. I wonder if I could get the limited edition 09 for 4,300USD, cause If I had to pay more I would have less wiggle room for aftermarkets.
Aftermarkets I am planning on purchasing within weeks of getting my 250
1.HIR Exhaust in Green.
2.Dark Smoke front shield.
3.Competition Works Fender Eliminator
4.Seat Cowl
If anyone has had any experiences with those aftermarket parts please let me know.

NY, specifically Long Island. If you use Cycle Trader you can find some 2006/2007s around for that price.
I never tried the 250r so I can’t directly compare but so far I’m really liking the gs500f–it’s nearly the same weight but has obviously the bigger engine, making it quite comfortable for the highway.

Sure you can. You can get a lowering kit for these. 08 and 09 are the same bike. cheaper add on also.
*Anyone else notice the green/black/white is suppose to look like the SUPERSPORT 900? lol

Canadian MSRP price on the Kawasaki site is up. For the special edition it is going to cost us $4699 and the rest of the colours $4549. Anyone have any Canadian OTD prices?

as soon as i find my invoice, i’ll break down the increased premium that californians gotta pay for the bike. i got the bike for $5200. $500 was for shipping alone.. maybe this will help some of you get a better picture of what you will pay (if you live in CA anyway). most people in the midwest and texas are getting thier bikes for about $500 less than us in CA.
by the way, i live in norcal. right in between Sac and San Francisco. i got the only 09 in the area! i saw an 08 in Napa, but thats it..
tomorrow i will also eliminate the fender with a DIY job. i actually got the DIY info on this website. search fender eliminator and you will see the thread (DIY). i’d rather spend the $90-$100 on SS brake lines instead of the shitty targa kit. that thing looks low quality and is not getting many good reviews.
anyone else fishtailing when they brake? i brake hard cuz i’m used to the 500cc honda interceptor i had before getting the 250. i also drive a last gen 300zx with upgraded brakes/drilled rotors that can stop on a dime!! maybe i just have bad driving habits..
anyway, i also noticed people talking about the fuel tank not filling up all the way. i did the math (divide average gallons consumed by miles driven) and get about 40-45 while driving in town and about 50 on routes where i am not constantly stopping and going. its kinda hard to judge the MPG cuz i mix my driving routes up all the time (freeway to backroads to city, etc.)
i’ll post the price 2nite and the results of the DIY job by sunday. enjoy your 2fiddy while you can!!! the bike is agile/nimble as fuck!

p.s. when i fill up i get about 2.5-3 gallons at most of gas. thats with the bike standing fully upright and not on kickstand.. its weird cuz the gas gauge says i am empty but there should be at least a gallon of gas still in there, right? most tanks only fill up about 80% (they gotta have room for expanding fumes). gauge seems inaccurate sometimes is all i am saying..
then again, my Z fills up with 13.5-14.5 gallons but the manual says it has room for aprx 18 gallons.. i’ll post the info as soon as i find it.

The sprocket came from sprocketcenter.com ($26.90 including very quick shipping!) Also, for anyone interested I found HID kits for the 08 250 w/H7 base at f-sane.com starting at $145.00! They have incredible selection on Kelvin temps, brands, etc. check it out!

so i follwed the DIY instructions (found on this 2fiddy website) to remove the fender from the bike and.. IT LOOKS SOOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER WITHOUT IT!!!
the directions were super easy and there is notheing else for me to say except that i have NEVER used a dremmel before and the finished results looks pretty fucking awesome!! it looks really clean and professional. i used the same tools as mentioned in the 2fiddy.com thread for DIY fender eliminators.
its really is ridiculous to pay $100 for some low quality kit. just man up, do it yourself, feel proud of what you are doing, and save the $100 for Steel-braided brake lines!!
and i still have not posted my invoice info from the purchase of my 2009 250r. i’ll post the info as soon as i find the invoice for the ninja purchase..
