“Early Release” 2009’s On way to dealers now??

There have been Murmurs for the last day or so about 2009’s showing up at dealers. Although this has not been 100% confirmed, I got sooooo many emails about it, I decided to make a few phone calls. Here is what I found out:

This might actually be legit. One of the two people I talked to have deliveries scheduled in the next week that they were told contain these bikes.

More details to comes. I’ll update once I have 100% confirmation.

Update 1:

2009’s are officially being delivered in Australia. Reader Joel (Who Send a Shout out to http://www.kawariders.com.au/) just brought home a 2009 Lime Green (Remember Folks, No Lime Green in AU last year..)

Update 2:

This is officially confirmed. Yes, Fresh Ninja 250’s are hitting US Soil for the first time in over a month or two… There is a little confusion as to if these are “Rebadged” 08’s or actually 09’s. No one really knows yet — But it doesn’t make sense to me for Kawasaki to sit on stock for 2 months just for $500.. (Unless production costs went into the red, which would also explain why there is a price increase)

Either way, a few lucky few of you at the top of the waiting lists will get new bikes over the next week. Wether of not they are “true” 09’s won’t be known for 2 more weeks after the September dealer meeting.

Congrats 2fiddy friends! Since you are getting refried ’08’s you are getting the best QC out there.

Now get busy ordering that jet kit and exhaust, cause this bike is waiting to take you places.

Pretty places with marmelade trees and rainbow smiles.

And musclely bald guys lying prone on Huyabusa’s glaring from behind Rayban’s.

And hog riders with no love. no love for anyone but those who ride chrome.

and strawberry trees with ice cream pickles!

One of our dealerships got one in yesterday, a blue one. I went down there today and there was a girl (who looked about 16 yrs old) that was picking it up.

    DJAZ Reply:

Ok..I know this is going to sound sexist, or ageist, or something.

But why do people let kids ride something like this. 18 and over I can understand, but I know plenty of guys who force their sons and daughters to ride and buy them the 250 (old) as a “starter”. And now this new one will be even more tempting because it looks great and is size compatible for most teens.

Very few kids at 16 have the muscle and coordination to handle a dirtbike let alone 250r. And even less have anywhere near the smarts to not kill themselves out there. In fact, a CAR is unbelievably dangerous in their hands. They should be riding off-road unless they have dirtbike experience.

Oh yeah, I wanted a Hayabusa when I was in High school. And a 83′ 911 turbo.
Could you imagine how dead I would be if i had gotten my wish?

It’s so insulting, and quite frankly, not true. This bike is NOT a starter for a kid. It is a starter for an adult. Then again, so is a Ducati Monster.

Teach the kids to ride on your bike Dads/Boyfriends. Leave the kids to buy one when they are old enough to make smart decisions and afford it themselves.

    Hurummph.

im sixteen and have driven a 250r ninja and i dont think it takes any strength and when you get used to it you feel like your riding a bicycle. i know people who are my age and have much more coordination than many adults. i think that anyone no matter how old they are can be a very dangerous motorcycle driver. i know to take classes and be careful and wear protective gear and i feel i will be safer with a motorcycle than alot of people who are older than me and do stupid stuff all the time.

    [Reply]

    Michelle Reply:

Is that the first motorcycle you have ridden or do you already have practice and knowledge about motorcycles. I am 25 and this was my first bike and I can tell you that 1) it does not feel like a bicycle, 2) it can be very dangerous in the hands of anyone who treats it as a toy and not the machine it is, and 3) it does take strength. I am 5′6″ and 130lbs and if that bike were to fall over it would be pretty hard for me to get it up myself.

I would never say that a 16 yr/o couldn’t ride a motorcycle…. I have seen much younger people riding bikes, it all depends on your training and maturity level. I work with guys that are older than me that wreck their bikes and do stupid stuff on them all the time. It just proves that there are stupid and safe drivers of all ages.

But I do agree with some of the above…. This is a sport bike and not a STARTER bike for a child, but then again not all 16yr olds are beginners at motorcycling. i am sure there are plenty of 16 yr olds that have more motorcycle experience than most people my age, but in my opinion that is like buying a corvette for 16 yr old for their first car…. you buy them a beater until they prove that they know what they are doing and have the maturity it takes to handle it then you get them something nicer.

    Sir Jack Reply:

I’m 41 and the bike feels pretty good to me. I weigh 180 and I’m 5′9″. I had an ‘81 Yamaha 750 cruiser and that thing was death trap. I feel much safer on my new 250. Everything about it is just easier, but don’t get me wrong, I already scared myself. I’m not into speed and this thing will do it. That’s why I opted for the 250 (besides cost). I knew a 500 or 650 would be too much for me. I also like how light it is. I pulled some muscles pushing my p.o.s. Virago. Anyway, I don’t think I’ll have too push this one.

    Shane Reply:

The funny part about this situation was that the sales guy was outside showing her where the throttle was, where the brakes were, and what the gauges do.

The sales guy recognized me and had a stupid look on his face when he saw me standing there…especially since I called the day before and they told me it would probably be a few more weeks before they came in. Yes, I have a deposit down.

At that point I just left.

the only other bike i drove was a 50cc dirtbike. i was practicing on my friends ninja which he taught his children on so it has some injuries. saying it feels like a bicycle is was a exageration and i think it has more power than you really even need. i think i could probably get it up of the ground.im about 5′8 or 9 and 145ish pounds. i put a couple hundred miles on it and everytime i drive it i feel like its easier to move around on. i can walk it around in circles and up hills just fine. i do understand that it is powerful and miss use could result in bad injury or death. I just think that maturity doesnt have much to do with age.

    Sir Jack Reply:

I don’t know of any difference, as far as I know, it may be an 08 stamped as an 09. I paid 4,600 total for it. My payments are 113 a month. As far as it being 500 more for the same bike , I don’t care. I’m enjoying the heck out of it. I’m getting about 65 miles to the gallon. It is awesome.

i FINALLY received my black 2009 ninja today in the bay/sacto area, ca. The bill of sale, and all other documetns refer to the bike as a 2009 model. I must of been amongst the last people to get it. shits weak, but well worth the wait! The fender is TERRIBLE but the bike looks soooooo much better in person than it does in pictures & reviews. WOW! I do hear some rattling coming from somewhere near the ignition when i am around 5-9 rpm.. anyone else experiencing that?

Yes, I called around many dealers. Apparently they get the chance to order one (1) pre-release before the main shipment comes in. I’ve heard various things about delivery dates of the other ones, ranging from mid October to early January.

    Cheers!

this bike is awesome! i got it in black and work in a high rise building in san francisco so i must park in a garage. the guys who work in the garage place the bike near the entrance and they say the bike gets a LOT of attention. i get cbr and r6 guys asking me what it is. the tire size throws off thier perception of what it is.. tires could be wider.. anyway, the tires are the only thing that makes people doubt it is a bigger bike. either way, i get props from many people, except haters.. most haters dont even ride. i thought in order to be a “biker”, you actually needed to have a bike..
there is a GREAT email posted on this website under the heading “2009 ninja: What to expect.” it explains why and how these 2009 ninjas were eleased ahead of schedule.

p.s. this bike lets me zip thru frisco streets like i was on a Dyno Freestyle bike!! so nimble and agile. bigger bikes burn me on the freeway, but NOT in the city.. ITS GREAT!!

I find a lot of these stories about 250r selling OTD for over 5k to be a little dubious.

At 4200 bucks OTD this bike is priced correctly. If your dealer quotes you 5100 the bike becomes a joke. I find it hard to believe people might be so monumentally stupid to pay that for a 250. This price creeps in to the range of brand new 500 cc bikes. For an additional 500 bucks you could get a GS500. For an additional 600 bucks you can buy the Ninja 500. These odd stories of people selling 250r’s for 5k+ are really are hard to believe. Im certain these prices must reflect good times protection plans and accessories like helmets and armor included in the purchase.

If your dealer quotes you a retarded price just raise your eyebrow and ask them where the additional cost over the 3499 is coming from. Let them know you are shopping around to several dealers. Tell them youll give them 4200 for it or find another dealer.

Even at the new price point of 4k (which is overpriced for a 250 with no FI in my opinion) you should be OTD for about 4600 TOPS and you should probably be able to get a helmet included at no extra cost.

Be smarter than your dealers sales people. Dont let them screw you. Just say no and shop around.

09’s are $3999 msrp, not $3499. The lower cost is for the 08 model.

Fo those looking for 09’s and being quoted 5200 and over.

I just put a deposit down at my local dealer in MA. on an 09 and he laughed at me when I told him people were being told 5200 bucks and over.

He said “No way! we’ll have you OTD registered and inspected for 4300 for the new 2009 bike.

Im not kidding. If your local dealers are saying 5200 or more they are crooked. Maybe we should compile a list of dealers in different states who are honest and those who are crooked so consumers can go into these purchases fully informed.
