Crash Science - Motorcycles

National Geographic logoLast week while looking for “How It’s Made”’s that I haven’t seen yet (There are so few left…), I saw a listing for a show called “Crash Science - Motorcycles” on NatGeo so I decided to set the ol’ Tivo for it. Well, seeing how good ol’ Tropical Storm Fay has kept me inside (and miserable) for the last 3 days, this show was a pleasant surprise when it recorded Wednesday night — and after watching it I was very, very, impressed.

Today I saw that they are replaying it one more time. So, if you can, I highly recommend recording this show. It goes over some of the variables that cause Superbike crashes, and what science goes into helping solve these issues. Overall it’s a great crash course (no pun intended) into the evolution of Sportbike technology and how this technology trickles down into street bikes.

And Best of all.. It’s in HD…

Channel: National Geographic / NatGeo / NatGeo HD
Show title: Crash Science - Motorcycles
Date/Time: Tuesday Aug, 26th @3PM EST

You won’t be disappointed… Makes you look at some things a lil differently…

And to be brutally honest, I can watch anything if it’s in HD. I know more about home improvement, cooking, random bugs and can now survive on 5 continents just from random crap I watch for no other reason than it is in HD. If I ever make it out of the Septo-Channels of doom, it’s a miracle (ESPN HD, Discovery HD, History HD, NAT GEO HD, Science Channel HD, FoodTV HD, HGTV HD)

Yeah I saw the last 15 minutes of this show and I was sad when the program ended. Now that it’s coming back on so I’m def gonna record this on Tuesday! BTW, I’m a HD whore as well :)

I’ll be watching it on my 52″ 1080p Sony XBR LCD but, unfortunately, in standard-def. I’m an HD whore also, but I have to get my fix from QAM HD on cable (free unencrypted channels without a box), Blu-Ray disc, HD console gaming, and my home-theater gaming/media-center PC (which will be doing the recording). Thanks for the heads up!

The XBR’s are damn nice TV’s… I have been looking to upgrade in a few weeks… Undecided between the Sony’s and the New Samsung’s… Tough choice, but might just let price decided. See if Post Thanksgiving sales have any juicy bargains..

My brother sounds sore that I am taking it to San Diego with me (it has been at his apartment for a year). Rather than just taking his old 30″ XBR CRT ($2,200 KV-30XBR910), he just ordered the 65″ LCD that was on Woot! yesterday. It’s supposedly a Sharp panel, so we have high hopes despite the bargain price (less than half of the $5K I paid for the KDL-52XBR2).

You might not have to wait for Thanksgiving. Because they didn’t sell out, I’d expect to see them again in the next Woot-off (possibly cheaper) and, by then, I’ll be able to give you an impression.

this website should have a forum, what do you guys say

Hah. I get this request at least once a week. ;)

As of right now there are already 4 Ninja 250R Forums. And one or two of them are pretty good…

The reason I have decided to stay away from forums is to keep this content a little less cluttered to make it easier for people to find exactly what they are looking for. I added in threaded comments to make it a little easier to have “Conversations” and it seems to be working.

Regardless, I have one or two tricks up my sleeve.. Give me a couple of weeks, you won’t be disappointed. ;)

I always wondered why this site didn’t have a forum…….
Good format as it is, i come here for specific reasons just as I go to other 250 boards for other reasons. Don’t change it if it’s not broken.
BTT: Thanks for the heads up on this. Luckily I remembered last night and set both the living romm (60″ HD Hitachi) and the bedroom (SD 32″) to record.
Is this something that I shouldn’t watch with my Fiance? She is already paranoid as it is about me crashing….

    Mr. 2Fiddy Reply:

Ironically I watched it with my fiance, and told her that it was about situations when riding on a track…

That being said, it’s one of those ‘Everyone walked away fine’ type shows — But if you learn anything from this show it’ll be the power of wearing proper gear… Without gear, none of these guys would of walked away from any of these crashes…

Hopefully I can find this on one of the torrent websites later.

Oh I just put a deposit for a ‘09 250R in blue. I’m second one in line, hopefully it will be here in October sometimes.

Well, my DVR (Vista Ultimate) cut off the introduction, but I still caught all the details. I wish they had the time to analyze a few more crashes.

The low-side crash where the guy got spun like a rag-doll… Is it possible that his spinning tire added energy after his initial impact?
