United Motors V2S-250R aka Ummm 250r?

UM VS2-250R

We here at 2Fiddy.com love all things 250… It really is a great number. And when I saw this thread over at KawiForums It only felt right that we took some time out of our day to check out the United Motors V2S-250R.

The UM’s are imported from Korea (And seem to be just rebadged Hyosung’s) — but are a lil more readily avialable (ie. Not as many waiting lists), and tend to go for about 500 - 1000$ less than a Ninja 250R.

But, That Aside, this is still a decent first bike for those on budget, or those that are stuck on a Ninja Waiting list just looking for any small cc starter bike.

So, What do y’all think about this lil guy?

I think it looks pretty sweet. I like that the rear sets are adjustable, the digital gauges and the clip-ons. Looks a little bulky for my taste but I’d have to see it. Has a cool look tho…just looks like the front ends so like suddenly…like it’s smushed. But if I didn’t already have a Ninja…I would go for this.

I think the price is right for alot of beginner riders… But from what I have been reading on the forums some people question the quality… But then again — for the price (I heard some as low as 3k OTD Brand new) — It has to be an attractive option to some..

Only a tad bit off topic, but still an interesting short review.

Aftermarket parts are about as scarce as the Ninja right now.. But the Ninja has a tad more ‘Buzz’ and seems that the aftermarket is embracing it a lil better…

First time rider and buyer. 5′3, 140lb., female.

I’m comparing UM’s2008 V2S-250R, Buell Blast, and a Ninja 250. Pro’s and con’s? Brand new or not? I like the sporty aesthetics of the V2S-250R and Ninja, but I’ve seen good reviews about the Blast… Your two cents, please?

Since these are pretty much all I can find in the low-end cc range, I’m curious as to whether there are others out there I should consider. Thoughts?

    Thanks

I have an 08 UM/Hyosung V2S 250R/GT 250R for a month now. Bought it for my 17 year old son as a starter bike.

I have been riding it to work 90 miles round trip on I4 this week, while I do some work on my Yamaha FZ6. I really like this bike overall. It has plenty of power and cruises around 70mph (speedo reads ~75mph) at 8K rpm. Red-line is 10.5K rpm. Handling is competent, though if you go into an expressway ramp curve hot you can get a little oscillation. Don’t know if this is geometry or tires.

But the more I ride it the more I like it. It is a great starter bike because it is full size, almost the same wheel base as my FZ6. So my son will learn the feel of full size bike.

Quality appears to me to be pretty good, the only thing I can complain about is the occasional squeak from the brakes.

I would recommend this bike to anyone looking for a sport bike for a beginner, or anyone looking for a commuter bike with good gas mileage. Oh and buy it used because the do depreciate more than a Ninja 250 because they have no reputation yet. I bought mine for $2,500 with 2,300 miles and 4 months old. The original owner paid in the range of $4,500+ OTD. And parts take longer to get than for a Kawasaki.

just traded my 2007 virago 250 in on a 2009 250r , was out the door with less than 2.5k out of pocket
i had been reading reviews and forums on this bike and it appears that if ya have a full service dealer then there are no problems
i have been greatly impressed by this bike gave me alot more confidence in my riding on the hwy
keeps up with my friends 600 , he says he wished he had got one instead of what he has now.

I’ve had the v2s 250r since the summer of “07″ and I do not have much to complain about this bike with. I did my research before I made the purchase (v2s or ninja) and what swayed me to the v2s was the size & possibility for aftermarket add-ons. I checked out the ninja first & after sitting on and haven ridin the ninja 250 & 500, the kawasaki’s just felt smaller and to me & looks more like a beginers bike. When I went to view the v2s, the first thing to catch my attention was when sitting beside the 650r, the only way to tell the difference from the 250 was a rear sticker decal on the bike that says 650. The 250r has brought me a wide range of questions from what kind of bike is that? thats to big for a 2, you sure it’s not a 6? But so far it has been a good very reliable bike. I purchased it new for $3700, 18 months wheel to wheel covarge & 3years engine & moving parts. Great deal, but aftermarket parts are hard to come by.

Just bought an ‘09 v2s last friday and am thoroughly impressed! Casey.Rhys, if you are interested in the UM, I’m an inch shorter than you are and had to have mine dropped! It’s not too heavy but has a pretty peppy performance for it’s size.

Congratulations, sean, you are the biggest douche bag on the thread! Must feel great. Too bad I’m a “chick,” and could probably take your ass to the curb on a bike of any size because this “chick” has been riding for about 15 years. Quit with the derogatory and sexist statements before you get your ass handed to you one day. Loser.

I just bought this bike off craigslist for $1,800. The previous owner put an after market exaust on it and this thing roars. deffinetly doesnt sound like a 250. I road it all day today and loved every min of it. everyone i talked to that saw it thought it was a 500. This is my first bike and i love it, so far this has been a grat bike for me. for some the seller told me it was a suzuki dont know why though. Either way i would have bought this bike. has low miles and passed inspection with no problem.
