Kawasaki OEM Seat Cowl — Follow Up
The orginal post I did about the OEM Seat Cowl replacement from Kawasaki has some less than stellar things to say about it. One of my main complains (and that of many people) is that it just didn’t want to Stay on, or properly click into the lock.
Well, after having it on the bike for almost a month now, I think it is only fair to do a follow-up to say that it has now “Broken in”. Taking the seat cowl off and on is a snap and the fitment is pretty damn near close to perfect — And it takes the same amount of pressure to get the replacement cowl on as it does the stocker.
So, before you go and shave the stoppers down, just give it some time to compress them down into the proper fitment.

the youtube how-to’s are crucial. glad everyone is putting them up and you’re compiling them on your site! Thats about the only thing i do have for my bike…the seat cowl!

The only issues I had with my cowl were:
1: The rear grommet (that holds the back end of the cowl in place) would pop out when you remove the cowl, and that is now fixed I guess it got nicely seated over the last month or so that I’ve had it.
2. The sucker isn’t exactly water resistant/proof. If you like to keep your registration/inspection/insurance info under you seat, I would recommend you take it out prior to washing the bike. Forgot about my registration and it took a shower…nothing too bad but the ink was starting to smear in a couple of places.
Other than that, seems to me its working “as intended” heh. Not a big deal really, especially if you get a good deal off of Ebay, some can be found for < $60.

To solve problem number 2, I would just put all of your paperwork in a zip lock baggy. That will keep the water from ruining it. I do not have the seat cowl just yet but I had the same problem with the stock seat.

After installing the OEM seat cowl I find my helmet holder does not work as well. Does anyone else have this problem?

yes me too…i was told your helmet wont fit cause it’s a “solo” seat cowl so you wont need to lock up a helmet for your “passenger” sucks tho

Jim,
I don’t know if it has a specific part number.. I think it’s a color code..
Either way, just call Advanced Kawasaki [ http://www.advancedkawasaki.com/ ] They have the best price around, and will know exactly what you’re talking about…

Ya ordered mine very early july, came in early Sept. Also, I had mine put together and installed at the dealership and I dont find that it fits very flush with the bike (especially at the seat end, [as opposed to the tail light end which fits closer) Any ideas???

Got my ninja yesterday and one of the first things after fitting the number plate was putting the replacement seat cowl on. I noticed that the colour of the rear cowl is a slightly lighter blue than the colour of my bike. Did anyone else have this problem? Also how is everyone putting their helmet on this cowl…I haven’t figured out a good way to do it yet…any suggestions?

The 08 and 09 colors are different. I found that out when I got the 08 seat cowl. I got it replaced with the 09. Color matches now. Do you have the part number? Part numbers for the colors are distinct. Maybe I should post all those. Save our fellow 2fiddiers the headache.

Did u put the rubber gromet on,its only a piece of rubber that fits snug in the back to hold it on.If i push on the back of mine the front pops up with out turning the key to un lock it. Looks great, fits like crap.

Played with it today, now it fits tight. Took everything apart and put it back together again. It went back on and locked in tight like it supposed to be.
