Whistle, Squeal, Squeak, Whine…
One of the first things that most Ninja 250R Riders notice (and freak out about) is the tendency of this motorcycle to make an odd screeching, beeping, buzzing, whining type sound.
Whats funny is that this sounds like a warning buzzer, and I have heard people think it is everything from a neutral warning, shift Warning, bad break pads or overheating warning. (Mainly because the sound happens when you’re accelerating, decelerating or breaking forcing the gas to slosh around) The truth it, it’s the gas vents for the cap, and this is a well known Kawasaki trait that has happened for generations of bikes and is nothing to worry about.

Someone needs to find and post the process given to the dealers for the ‘fix’. The dealers can’t legally do the fix but owners can I bet. If nothing else they can do it on a ‘track bike’ 250…

Is there a known fix for this somewhere? I know it’s normal, but it annoys me to no end. I want it gone!

I want it gone as well.. I just talked to the Kawasaki Consumer Service on the phone and the gentle acted surprised when I said a LOT of people online were complaining about it. However, he said it has to do with the check release valve in the tank and not to worry about it that it will slowly go away over time.. I on the other hand would like to see a fix for this now!

there is not a fix for the whistle sound - you just have to deal with it. that is if you are talking about the noise while the bike is off. i don’t have a whistle sound while i’m riding. its a $4000 bike (and the best you can learn on and have fun on) so don’t be too disappointed in the imperfections. If you spend $7K - $10K on a bike (CBR, GSXR, ZX6R etc…) more than likely you wont have those type of issues. i know it’s annoying but focus on the things it does do well and i’ll put up with a whistle if it saves me $5K and it’s all the bike i need (at least for now

hey,
Ive got a 2010 Ninja, and although mine doesnt whistle when i’m going along it does make a whinning noise just after I turn it off until its cooled down.
Its actually proven quite useful as I had a few guys ‘just looking at it’ with a wrench and a screwdriver and it made the noise and they must of thought it had an alarm as they looked around and walked off!!!
Or they though it was a cat stuck in there!!!
Cheers guys - nice to know my hearing isnt f**ked anyway!

Same thing on my 2009 250r. Every time I move the bike it starts whining like crazy. But the second you open the tank it stops. I’m surprised there is no pressure release valve on the tank to stop this from happening.
