Shogun Crash Kit / Frame Sliders for the 250R
I have heard these things called a million different things… Fairing protectors, crash bobbins, wuss rods, crash protectors, noob tubes, crash kits, and/or frame sliders… But, no matter what you call them, they all do the same thing — Protect your bike and bodywork from damage from a drop, fall, tip over, and other ‘minor’ damage situations.
Even the most seasoned riders have brain farts and drop a bike. For a 100$ it’s cheap insurance to protect your fairings from the bondo man and the spray booth. And even if you have 100% confidence that you’ll never drop your bike, remember that last time you saw someone whip into your parking spot thinking it was empty - coming inches from your bike? Well sooner or later, they won’t stop - So it’s also cheap insurance from the idiots of the world.
Remember: Even those these are commonly called “Crash Kits” — They offer YOU no protection in a crash. And, only offer your bike protection in the basic incidents.
Manufacture: Shogun
Price: $75 - $125

Just ordered a set. I’ll let you know how they work when they get here… They had 2 versions a no cut and a cut version. I picked up the no cut version which was a bit more expensive (134?) but if I need to do very little modification it’s worth it.

don’t want to start a whole discussion on these but i emailed knee draggers a few weeks ago about their availability….
“Yeah they are not out yet and we don’t have any pictures either.
Unfortunatley I’m not sure when they will be available. Hopefully soon!

hi,
i just have a quick question about the new 08 ninja 250r sliders, item #633525. is this an item you actually have in stock or are you still waiting for shogun to release it? i’ve heard that other retailers list them for sale but don’t have them yet.
also, could you take a picture of them (installed on a bike would be great) to replace the generic pic? i’d like to see them before i buy.
thank you.”

Just got an email from Nomadic Cycle Supply (http://www.nomadicmoto.com ):
Subject: 2008 Ninja 250 Frame Slider Updates
Thank you all for your patience!
Here is what has been happening with the frame slider situation. Some good news and some not-as-good news.
The bad news is we still have not seen a single kit arrive from Shogun. Shipment due dates of 6/27, 7/4 and several others have come and gone. This is not just us, the Shogun distributors have not received any. Shogun makes an excellent product, but they seem to be having supply issues (they supply a LOT of frame sliders, but they still need to make a LOT more).
The better news is that we will be bringing in another supplier of frame sliders in addition to Shogun. Intuitive is basically the originator of the frame slider, and they have a kit done and being produced right now. We do not have any pictures, but it is a NO-CUT kit also (no holes have to be drilled in bodywork). They have finished producing the brackets and are now being anodized as of my conversation with the distributor just now. They are expected at the end of the month, and we will be getting the first ones in their door. We will provide pictures of the Intuitive sliders as soon as we have them. Some of us here have used their sliders on race bikes in the past, and we know they are a no-nonsense product that works, and not just a bolt-on “bling” item.
The Shogun Crash kits (Frame Sliders, Spools and Bar-end sliders) are $219.99
Shogun Frame Sliders alone are $189.99
Intuitive doesn’t yet put together “Crash Kits”, but Frame Sliders are $124.99, so they are less expensive. We can package bar-ends and spool sliders into Crash kits without the fancy packaging when they come in, and we’ll set pricing when we do, but obviously it will be less expensive than the Shogun Crash Kits.

Has anyone installed the Shogun kit yet?
I got one for my girlfriend for Christmas. The dealer
got two in stock and saved one for me by request.
It is a substantial kit and looks to be VERY well
manufactured. At first I thought is was a stunt cage
because of the tubing and how stout it was built.
I have yet to install it as there is some cutting to
be done to the countershaft sprocket cover.
The kit did not come with instructions, but, some
web searching did locate the step by step directions
with decent pictures. It looks like it is going to be a
several hour project for sure.
Any hints, tricks or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff

Success. My girlfriend installed her Shogun Frame Slider kit
pretty much all by herself. I just assisted with the motor
mount bolts and the floor jack. Over all the hardest part
was getting the side fairings off and on. The dang little
plastic rivet doodads were a PIA.
The instructions we found on the web site were spot
on and well detailed The pictures were a nice
touch. We deviated from the instructions when it
came to cutting the countershaft sprocket cover. The
directions explaing to remove a rectangle area of
about 1 1/2″ by 2″ or so. We carefully placed the cover
up next to the Shogun frame guard, and with some tape
covering the sprocket cover. Used a magic marker to
scribe a “U” shapped cut out around the frame guard.
A Dremel and a cut off wheel, finished up with a file and
some sand paper produced a finished cut that looks
almost OEM. A little dab of black touch-up paint and you
would have a hard time ever seeing where the mod was made.
First impression. The kit fit perfectly. Is very well made and
finished. I hope she never has to “product test” the sliders, but,
if she does. I suspect they will do the job they were designed
for.
I give the Shogun Frame slider kit “Two Thumbs UP!”
Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,
I just received mine today. Also, mine did not come with instructions as well. You mentioned a website, is it possible that you can provide that website with those instructions?
Thanks much
Shaun

Shaun, try:
http://www.moto911.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_11_278&products_id=590
or
http://www.moto911.com/pdf/750-4119.pdf
It really is an easy kit to install. Just be sure to
support the motor with a floor jack or something.
It will try and tilt forward and make it hard to
install the upper front motor mount bolt.
Good luck and enjoy,
Jeff
